Which guitars, amplifiers and effect units do/did they use?
Some of this information is taken from the old Kåre & the Cavemen-site.
Knut Schreiner:
Jet Age:
When Cavemen/Euroboys was an instrumental band (think Jet Age and Long Day's Flight 'Till tomorrow), Knut used this gear onstage:
Guitars:
Fender Jazzmaster Found this pic at musikkavisen.no
Gibson Les Paul Standard (think he used this more from 1998, he also used this while playing with Turboneger) Thanks Erlend for this pic!
Effects:
Big Muff fuzz pedal->
Boss tremolo->
Crybaby wah wah->
Ibanez analog delay->stage tuner
Amps:
VOX AC30 and Fender Reverb simultaneously
"In the studio he also uses some other stuff, Vox and Leslie amps, Fender Stratocaster and Telecaster guitars plus effects such as a Roland Space Echo, Roland Chorus Echo, Fuzzrite, Jimi Hendrix Fuzzface and a Badstone Phaser. In addition he makes use of tube compressors and equalizers." From the old Kåre & the Cavemen site.
1999 Man/Getting Out of Nowhere:
Knut changed his concert-rig when the music became more like the sound on 1999 man and following releases:
Guitars:
same as above
Amps:
Fender Twin Rev & Orange Matamp simultaneously on Marshall & Peavey 4 x 12" speakers.
He also used this set-up:
Gibson SG with a Bigsby vib-arm and a Fender amp (Showman??) through a Marshall 4 x 12"
simultaneously with Marshall amp through Marshall 4 x 12" and Roland Space/Chorus Echo
Soft Focus Era:
Here is the setup Knut use these days:
Guitars:
Gibson Les Paul Standard
Gibson SG (white w/ three humbuckers)
Gibson SG (w/ Bigsby)
Gibson ES-335
Fender Jazzmaster
Effects/amp:
Knut's amp and pedals, Trondheim 04.09.04: effect chain amp
Effect chain: Boss TU Tuner -> Vox Wah -> MXR Phase 90 -> Proco Vintage Rat -> MXR Micro Amp -> Ernie Ball Volume -> Roland Space Echo (Not seen on the picture of the pedals; it's on the top of the amp. This is perhaps the most important effect Knut uses; In order to get a rich and fat sound, he always mixes some echo in his sound).
At the Store Studio gig on April 26th 2004, he used a Gibson ES335 and a Fender Twin Amp.
Turboneger:
At Turboneger's reunion tour summer 2002, Knut used these amplifiers (Marshall through Marshall and Orange cabinets) and a Gibson Les Paul Custom (1972). He's also been using Peavey stacks as well as Marshall stacks.
Check out this Peavey add: 1 2
Effects Scandinavian Leather era (As seen on the Reserection DVD): Guitar -> Boss TU-2 Chromatic Tuner-> VOX V847 -> MXR Distortion+ -> MXR Micro Amp -> amp
According to an interview with Knut in Musikkpraksis #3/05, he now use a Marshall 100-watt Silver Jubilee through a 4x12. For the sound for "Party Animals", he used 50 watt Marshall Silver Jubilee (which is his backup for live work). For more vintage hardrock sound, he employs a Marshall Super Tremolo 50 watt and an Ibanez Tube Screamer overdrive unit (which is where the sound for "City of Satan" derives). For "Scandinavian Leather", he used a Marshall Super Lead 100 watt, plus a MXR Distortion+, the signal of these went to a Vox AC30 which was recorded as an other track. Knut also tells that he doubles his playing in order to get a warmer, softer sound. Knut also use an old Epiphone SG on "Party Animals", with an open G tuning, with 5 strings; removing the e string (the refrain for "High On the Crime" is an example).
Knut use .011 strings; he used D'Addario strings before, lately he's used RotoSound and now settling for Everly Strings..
Black Diamond Brigade:
At the Black Diamond Brigade concert in Bergen 2004, Knut used this white Gibson SG.
