Deadbeat Magazine
It's not every day Deadbeat reviews a release by Virgin. Not that it goes against any principles we may have. It's just because Virgin doesn't exactly sign a lot of garage bands. And you can't really call Kåre and his Cavemen garage, but this is so suave, we had to review it. And besides, the lineup counts members from bands like Abusers, Gluecifer and Turbonegro. The music is a laidback blend of surf, easy listening and Burt Bacherach. Unlike other surf or garage bands the sound of Kåre & The Cavemen is very clean and well-produced. But I guess that's because they play the instruments so well they don't have to hide behind a shitty production. The stand-out musician is of course Knut Schreiner, Guitar God (and also the Euroboy in Turbonegro). His guitar work on tracks like "Monkeyface" or "Satan's Little Helper" is out of this world. Before you rush out to buy it, you should know that this band is marketed as "The Euroboys" outside Scandinavia. Probably the coolest instro record i have ever heard. |
